Hello there,
Due to a recent malicious spambot that has filled the debate area--repeatedly--with junk and advertisements, I am probably going to disallow unregistered users from posting. I tried an IP ban, but unfortunately, the bot returns with a completely different one each time (not just a few digits that are different, but enough that it seems to be coming from a whole new Internet service provider).
If there be any among you have an objection to this, or another suggestion, please post it now or forever hold your peace. <img src="http /hyperboards.com/v2images/smiley__grin.gif" alt="Smiley" border="0" />
I decided to give everyone advance warning, so that users involved in current debates may have the choice of registering--if desired--or, if they don't want to, post their parting arguments without being barred from doing so, or compelled to register. Of course, it is my hope that every anonymous guest will decide to register, instead of leave (yes, even Mr. Mannn). <img src="http /hyperboards.com/v2images/smiley__tongue.gif" alt="Smiley" border="0" />
What say you? Barring any strong objections or decent counter-arguments, the change will be applied September 30th.

As amusing as the anonymous posting function can be, I agree that there doesn't seem to be an alternative in this case. Spam sucks. I don't think that I've ever heard of anyone who has actually bought anything due to being spammed. And, I agree that all of the anonymous posters should register. If you find yourself coming to a board often enough to post, you should register.

"-what have you been doing to that book, you depraved boy?" "It isn't the library's! It's mine!" said Harry hastily, snatching his copy of Advanced Potion-Making off the table as she lunged at it with a clawlike hand. "Despoiled!" she hissed. "Desecrated! Befouled!"

It would be for the best, but I also know of spambots that register and then spam. Wouldn't it be easier to just delete the spam? <img src="http /hyperboards.com/v2images/smiley__smile.gif" alt="Smiley" border="0" /> And thanx LeSigh, I didn't think you would notice my blog, or atleast visit and comment

Registering creates a bottleneck that alot of spambots can't surpass at all, and at the least, adds a strong layer of defense with few drawbacks that I can see. To register and post, a spambot needs a registration feature, access to a valid email address, and so on. A spambot's account can be disabled in seconds, and all their posts mass-deleted with one swipe (whereas, when it posts as a "Guest" and toggles IP addresses, there's no way to remove all of its spam, except by manually deleting every single post).
Due to the low amount of feedback on this, though, the deadline for registering before the requirement is set has been extended to October 10th.

I agree it's probably a good idea. Most message boards require a registration to avoid this very thing.

I agree also. Make them register to post.

Anonymous posting has been globally disabled. I trust the spambot demon is exorcised. If not, there's always [url=http /www.lordcocentre.com/Stores/pharm/141.html]this.
Please report any issues you might have with the change. If unable to post (and unwiling to register, you bums) email me at allan.glenn @ gmail.com (just remove the spaces surrounding the "at" sign. I don't want spambots harvesting my address, either.)

I'm haven't cried yet in case ou think i'm a pussy, i just wish we could do more for him ...
